Outfit to Scrapbook: Blue Collar Ballerina

2010_12_08

For this outfit to scrapbook transformation, I really wanted to emphasize the color blocking and casual sophistication of the outfit. To mimic the pleats of the skirt, I used a paper crimper on sage green patterned paper.

Keeping the color proportions relatively the same, I laid out the page, using pink paint similar to the color of the shirt and black stitching to add the casual pocketed vibe. The littler details included punching out holes below the bottom photo to mimic the holes of the belt, and adding a bold black “k” to give a similar feeling of the shoes in the outfit. Sure, the page isn’t a dead ringer for the outfit, but inspiration has to start somewhere, right? :)

Translated from the outfit to the page is the idea of the open jacket surrounding a lacy patterned center, with little bits of pink and blue pattern poking out here and there. To add extra lacy texture that you just can’t get with printed paper, I stitched two strips of white lace at the top and bottom of the page. Black accents from the outfit, like the tights, hat, and shoes, appear in the matting of the photos and the foam letters I used. And, of course, as smitten with buttons as I am, I added some buttons like the ones on her coat, which really tie the photos in with the page.

Outfit to Scrapbook: Punk Meets Granny

2010_11_08

I was quite taken by the unexpected pairing in this outfit, brought to us by Streetfsn. I think it’s the disheveled mix of things I love- granny patterns, stripes, jackets, lace-up shoes, and even a fun vintage purse. I wasn’t sure about trying this look in my own wardrobe, but I knew for sure that I loved the vibe and wanted to duplicate it in a scrapbook page.

First I gathered the supplies that I thought meshed well with the outfit, sticking with the same colors and textures. After I chose a photo to work with, my selection was narrowed down a bit to suite the subject matter.

I didn’t have any black and white striped paper, so I made my own stripes using strips of black-on-black lace paper. The vinyl letters I used represent the vintage purse in the outfit, as they have the same texture and out-of-place formality. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the black paint added a bit of the disheveled feel that the outfit conveys. Add a piece of camel leather, a mini piece of a bingo pattern, some lace pattered paper strips in a similar color to her skirt, and I think I’ve achieved a similar look!
