Inspired By: Glass Front Cabinets

Inspired-by--glass-front-cabinets

This week’s “Inspired By” feature should really be called “Lusting After” or “Deeply Pining For” a glass-front cabinet! I’ve had my eyes out for one every time I go thrifting. It makes me really sad, because I found a really lovely one last year, but due to our precarious apartment attic-way stairs (I like to say that we live in the tower, since our apartment building looks like a castle), the china cabinet was unable to make the move with us.

So now, my head is filled with visions of cabinets dancing in my head. Yes, dancing.

Where we lay our heads…

I thought I would give you all a little true-life (no nonsense) tour of the little nook in my bedroom where we now sleep. The only time you will find our bed made is if I’m taking pictures for a magazine, or if Phil wants some action. :)

Our mattress set, which belonged to my parents before they upgraded, is situated on a $20 steel frame which we purchased at a big box store. On the box spring is a wrinkly dust ruffle. The pillow cases don’t match, but we like it that way. Mine is pink and floral; Phil’s is blue and white pinstriped.

Behind where my head lays, you will find a love note written to me from Phil when we were still dating, six years ago. I think it’s really sweet to remember our love when it was young. I grabbed the frame from a thrift store for a quarter.

My closet is really tiny, so I like remind myself what’s smooshed inside by rotating dresses onto my walls. These two are the current picks, along with a scarf I wore with a red dress yesterday.

My favorite piece in the bed nook is the antique quilt that Phil’s grandma gave us for our wedding. She found the top at an estate sale, and hand quilted it herself! I’ll show you more of my bedroom when my coverlet is complete, and the shelves are all built.

Inspired By: Chevron Blankets

I mentioned before that I was working on a coverlet for my bed. Well, meet the inspiration! I think there’s something so “bohemian granny” about a crocheted blanket for a bed, and a chevron one really modernizes it for a current style.

I’ve subconsciously been craving one of these blankets, which is obvious by the last photo in this post, and by most of this post! Fortunately, it occurred to my conscious mind that I really need one to complete my bedroom restyle. So, I’ve been spending many hours working on a queen size coverlet (I used this video to learn how.) that measures 100 inches wide. I think I have my work cut out for me, eh?
