Making Nice in Columbus, Ohio

A visit to Columbus, Ohio

Summertime seems made for exploring. I love traveling far from home, but I think a lot of us really neglect exploring the cities near our own homes. Columbus, Ohio is a place I’ve visited lots of times through my life, but I’ve only recently begun to dive deeper into the city to see what it has to offer, aside from the obvious— Ohio State Football. (I’ve mentioned before that I married into a Buckeye-crazed family!) I’m loving the wealth of culture Columbus has to offer, and this weekend Phil and I are headed to Ohio’s capital city to experience all the fun we can in one weekend.

My sister-in-law recently moved into the German Village neighborhood of Columbus, and I’m simply smitten with its charm! We’ll be starting our weekend there, but check out all of our plans below. If you’re from Columbus, you should pretty please share you favorite spots so we can check them out!

  • North Market: The large, indoor market hosts farmer’s bounty on Saturday mornings, but we’ll be there on Sunday for food and the Market Flea. I can’t wait to see what treasures I discover!
  • The Columbus Museum of Art: Free on Sundays! I’m looking forward to seeing the Modern Dialect exhibit if we have time to visit.
  • Katalina’s Cafe Corner: A small and extremely charming carry-out restaurant with space to dine in. They have nutella stuffed pancake balls! Need I say more? They’re really popular in the mornings, though, so we may stop by in the afternoon.

I’ll be sharing our Columbus experience next week. We’re excited to have fun, unwind, and eat to our hearts’ content this weekend! Be sure to send along your Columbus recommendations!

WHAT WE WORE: Queens of Ice Cream

What do you love the best about your city? When my friends come to visit my lifelong home of Canton, Ohio, I always feel a little bit bad when they ask me what they should do before I leave, and I respond with an emphatic, “ICE CREAM!” I’m sorry! It’s just what I love the best about this city! I’m sorry that my visiting friends are usually paleo, and typically wouldn’t enjoy the other unique Canton alternative— The Pro Football Hall of Fame. Ice cream is just what we do best. And I’m certainly alright with celebrating that, no matter what the season, but especially during our humid summers.

We went to Taggarts on a little ice cream date as a family last weekend, and Phil took some Momma/Lucy style photos for us to share with you. Here are the details on what Lucy and I wore:

M O M M A :  Dress: Avenue Antiques (Canton, OH) / Shoes: Clarks / Belt: thrifted
Necklace: Hartville Flea Market / Shorts: Nike (from my volleyball days!) / Crop top: thrifted

L U C Y :  Basically everything is thrifted or hand-me-down. (per usual!)

Black and White All Over

3-D movie screening

Black and white photography is such a great addition to a colorful home. It adds an element of neutrality amidst the creative chaos of an artistic home— or just a home full of crazy color, kids, and plastic toys. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for some black and white photography to frame and display in our dining room, but nothing I found really felt like “me.” Too stuffy. Too try hard (which is ironic considering how hard I was looking). Or just too boring and hotelesque.

Needless to say, as internet searches usually go, my quest turned into an obssession. I ended up finding not one, not two, but just seven pieces I loved, but only purchased one. Can you guess which one? (Check my Twitter for hints!)
