Phil and I joke about starting a hair comment college fund for Lucy. Each time someone remarks on her hair, they put a dollar in the jar. When the comments stop coming in, we invest the money in some medium risk mutual funds, and by her senior year of high school, she’s ready for 4 years of Harvard. Or Yale. We’re not picky. I mean, this kiddo’s probably going to be a genius. Her first sentence is bound to be a doozie: “Well, would ya look at all that hair!”

Every December 31st we gather with friends to ring in the new year with lots of merriment and cheer (and beer). Each year the party seems to be getting fancier and fancier, so I’m thinking about stepping it up and wearing something fabulous this time! The past two Christmases I had my eye on a very expensive stainless steel insulated coffee press, but it went unnoticed on my wish list each year. Well I finally realized that nobody wants to spend that much money on a coffee press! Especially not when you can insulate the one you already have.

So here we have it- my very own insulated coffee press that I threw together with items I already had on hand- a coffee press (life changer, by the way!), scrap fabric, quilt batting, and white thread. It was a pretty simple project, and now I’m trying to share the magic of pressed coffee with all of my loved ones, so I can make them this fun homemade gift for their new coffee presses next year! Come on guys, it really does make better coffee.
