Something Borrowed, Something New

Last weekend I tried something new. Well, a couple of new things, actually. I tried a 50mm lens, which I borrowed from Alex, lead singer for a local band, Variance. And I also tried my hand at shooting a live show. For Variance. It turns out I didn't use the 50mm lens much at all, but I did enjoy the difficult task of shooting a show from the sidelines. You can't exactly tell the guys what to do or how to stand. A bit frustrating, and challenging in a good way.

I also enjoyed the music of A Minor Bird, Searbird, and Sherwood. But I didn't take any pictures of them… because for some reason I feel silly taking pictures in public when I'm not doing so "professionally." Like I can't take pictures of the band unless I'm "with the band" Or else I will look like some groupie girl. I don't know. I'm weird. :)

Best photoshoot of 2009

Churchill4

During the Christmas holiday, my dear friend Jolie and her husband, John-Paul (of whom I can now say is also a dear friend!) were visiting from Florida and asked if we could do a photoshoot. Heck yes! I was a little nervous about photographing photographers… but I think I loosened up after a bit!  These two are simply the cutest ever, and so, of course, I deemed it the best photoshoot of 2009.

Inspiration from last weekend

Last Saturday I shot my first ever solo wedding. I also saw, for the first time ever, the most gorgeous paper flower designs!

Paper flowers

The bride handmade three bouquets as well as various boutonnieres and corsages.  Out of paper!  I couldn't believe the detail and textures.  I couldn't wait to share it with you!  Wow.  I am still in awe.
