Getting Organized & Naming Spaces

I’m finally starting to get things organized here in the new home. Radiators are the equivalent of a curve ball when it comes to placing furniture around these parts, so I’ve been resorting to shelving, especially in the dining room. You know, I’m not quite sure why we even call it the dining room. There is no table, no chairs… just lots of vintage clothing and accessories. We just haven’t come up with a better name, so since it is supposed to be a dining room, that’s what we call it. Any suggestions on a new name? It has to be short and easy to say when commanding husband to take his shoes off before entering the _______ room. ;)

Home Sweet Home… In Progress.

Boxes, boxes everywhere! But happily, much painting has been done and there is very little taupe trim left to be smothered in white! The kitchen cabinets are no longer blue and brown… and only one more coat of paint until they are crisp and white! White, white, white… more white paint than boxes, actually.

I haven’t worked so hard on doors in all my life. My dad and I have been scraping layers and layers of paint off the kitchen cabinet doors, which will later take their place in my cozy little kitchen. Oh, and for some reason our apartment has doors everywhere! Doors which will probably never be closed, but shall be painted nonetheless.

The bedroom is the area about which I am most clueless. I think I know what I’d like to do… but I just don’t have enough furniture to fill the space! Too much space? A problem I didn’t think I would ever encounter. In fact… we are probably going to be putting a sofa in our bedroom. That’s how big it is. Ha!

I’m growing weary of all the boxes laying about, and I don’t know where half of my belongings are… but at least we have an area of refuge where one can imagine there is no more unpacking and organizing to be done. (Proper blinders required.)

So I went a little crazy.

This is what happens when you let me into a thrift store. I leave with boxes of vintage glassware. Which I do not need. And for which I do not have room in my cupboards. But lucky for me, last month (when I was at a thrift store, once again) I purchased that lovely china cabinet which has been so lonely with only a row of books to fill its insides.

I seriously need to get my new vintage shop launched. The amount of lovely goods piling up at my house is outrageous! If you haven’t been following me on Twitter, you might not know that I have decided to work full time on an online vintage shop. I have changed the name and have a new image in mind that will translate well into a real brick and mortar shop here in a year or two.

And the new shop is debuting THIS WEEK! Oh yes. Even tomorrow if I get things finished in time. Hooray!
