Home Sweet Home… In Progress.

Boxes, boxes everywhere! But happily, much painting has been done and there is very little taupe trim left to be smothered in white! The kitchen cabinets are no longer blue and brown… and only one more coat of paint until they are crisp and white! White, white, white… more white paint than boxes, actually.

I haven’t worked so hard on doors in all my life. My dad and I have been scraping layers and layers of paint off the kitchen cabinet doors, which will later take their place in my cozy little kitchen. Oh, and for some reason our apartment has doors everywhere! Doors which will probably never be closed, but shall be painted nonetheless.

The bedroom is the area about which I am most clueless. I think I know what I’d like to do… but I just don’t have enough furniture to fill the space! Too much space? A problem I didn’t think I would ever encounter. In fact… we are probably going to be putting a sofa in our bedroom. That’s how big it is. Ha!

I’m growing weary of all the boxes laying about, and I don’t know where half of my belongings are… but at least we have an area of refuge where one can imagine there is no more unpacking and organizing to be done. (Proper blinders required.)

OH. MAN. it looks amazing already!!! can we come see it when we’re in for Lisa’s wedding?!

  2. Mandi says:

Yes, Allison! It will be great to see you guys!! Where are you all staying when you come? We have some spare space and can house a couple people if you and the hubs want to stay. :) P.S. YOU need to start a blog so I can read it and comment. hehe

I love the smell of newly painted house. It smells like new beginnings.
I love all the beautiful details in your house, like the stair railing and the big windows. How many bedrooms are there?

  6. Leah says:

Your new apartment is absolutely gorgeous. Love the arches and giant windows!

  7. Tina says:

those stairs are stunning. you’re lucky to live in a place where homes have such beautiful details. our homes are so stale.

Thanks everybody! I finally had a meltdown last night, which spurred on Phil to finally start digging into his cardboard boxes of teacher supplies. It turns out lots of it could be put in the basement storage room. (YES we get a storage room! Yippee!)
@Chickything: I actually love the smell of paint too! (So bad for me, I know. Girl can’t help it!) But our landlord gave us the non smelling kind. haha So oh well. We only have a one bedroom. But the rest of the roomy apartment makes up for it! We only needed one bedroom anyway. :)

Your apartment is amazing. I had no idea there were places that cool in Canton, OH. I was born there and still have lots of family in the area. In fact, my maiden name is DeMario and I think one of my cousins owns the moving company listed on your moving boxes. It really is a small world. Enjoy your new home!

I’m loving the fact that I’m sat in my little apartment in the UK looking at exactly the same rocking chair while on my laptop on our green couch! :)
That’s a lovely refuge you’ve created, it’s always so important to have somewhere to escape the mayhem of moving!
    Good luck with it all!

Very cool, Angie! One of my best childhood friend’s name is DeMarzio. :) When we first got those boxes (I’m not exactly sure where my husband found them, to be honest) I thought it was her name! But it wasn’t. :)
It always makes me sad when people say “I didn’t know there were cool things in Canton!” haha I dunno. I just wish more cool people stayed around. Two of my very cool friends are leaving. One to Baltimore and one to Portland. Which makes me sad, because Canton would be way cooler if they stayed. And more people would stay and open fun places if the cool people quit leaving. :)

Looks beautiful!!! Those wooden floors are to die for. And it looks like they threw a shirtless husband in with the house – good deal ;)

  13. Omg – that window!! It looks like an amazing place, and it looks beautiful in these pictures, before the decorating has even begun, miss! :) Lovely!!

I’ve just started reading your blog today, and am really enjoying it. I’m in the middle of moving across the country, and will be doing some major DIY projects with my new apartment, and your blog couldn’t be a better inspiration.
Good luck with the progress! And cheers to DIY projects :)

What an incredible apartment! I’m English and you would never get that much space here without paying thousands of pounds per month, so I am very jealous!

  18. Erin says:

What a beautiful space! I love the railing and giant window.

  19. Stephanie says:

    Your place is beautiful!
My apartment had a ton of doors too.. I didn’t want to paint them all so I just took them off the hinges and voila! more space and less to paint
