WHAT I WORE | Maternity Style – 16 Weeks

2012_04_08

Wahoo! We’ve made it all the way to 16 week! To me, this means only four more weeks before we discover whether the little being growing inside of me is a boy or a girl. Couldn’t be more excited.

In the meantime, I’ve been wading my way through frustrating sewing patterns (I’m much more used to reading blueprints!), attempting to alter patterns, and breathing a sigh of relief that my first creation turned out well! Welcome to my hand-made maternity style. I’m hoping there will be lots more creations to come!

I started and finished this dress last Saturday, as I was really motivated to have a fun dress to wear on Easter Sunday. Reminds me of being a little girl and the excitement that came with getting a new frock for the Spring holiday.

I found the fabric on Etsy (Which, by the way, it’s pretty tough to nail down multiple yards of the same vintage fabric there! Lots of time involved!), and also purchased the maternity pattern on Etsy. My mother and I did some tweaking to the pattern using this website, and found that it worked out pretty well! I did have to take it in a bit when the bodice was done, but better too much fabric than not enough!

So exciting! I’m a seamstress now! Check out my happy dance below, if you will.

Welcome to my backyard! It’s been a real help to a (as of late) lazy fashion blogger, to have private property to tromp around and preen unabashedly for a camera, and even a mother-in-law who comes over to mow the grass for us! (Did I tell you? Phil had knee surgery, and I don’t know how to drive a stick- so we’re quite helpless in lawn maintence this Spring.)

So, as you can see, we have trees, grass, and maybe you can see that brick wall in the distance? I like to think of it as a secret garden, hidden by trees and overgrown shrubs. But in actuality, as you might expect when you hear a gentle whirring sound coming from the distance, there’s a highway back there, and even a train track, which carries scenic trains from Canton to Cuyahoga Falls! We don’t mind the noise much, as the wall keeps out the loud traffic sounds, and we like not sharing our backyard with anyone and also enjoy the complete privacy that comes with having a walled highway beyond one’s backyard.

So, there it is! A glimpse at our backyard. Don’t worry, you’ll see more of it soon. ;)

WHAT I WORE | Maternity Style – 13 Weeks

Wahoo! Here I am- out of the “danger zone,” as the doctor lady told me this week. As she poked around my belly, she also told me (with an ounce of surprise?) that I was grooowing. Well, duh. My pants could’ve told me that. All of my weight has been shifting around, and I’ve gained three pounds. Welcome pounds, because I’ve been being quite healthy, so bring it on, baby!

I think this Spring, until I grow out of my shirts, I will be wearing a different take on this outfit during trips to the market, to picnics, and to bonfires with friends. These trousers have lots of room to grow (Belly panel! My word. My Thanksgivings will never be the same.), so they will be great with a variety of loose shirts and neck scarves to mix things up. It’s a uniform I don’t mind wearing until I get some pretty dresses sewn together!
