omp and ircumstance

I’m up on the SIStv Catwalk this week… but the best part of it was that Amber Ulmer picked my mini. hehe  I admire her so it meant a lot.

Went thrifting…
found some stuff…
wish I had found more!
But it was a fun (and more importantly CHEAP) adventure.
Thrift_finds
The doiles I had in mind to use in a future project. The tablecloth- too lovely and cheap to pass up!  The scarf- I ALWAYS find lovely scarfs (my fortune in life I suppose).  The frames- well, I just always like to pick them up whenever I see them for a fetching price.
I always seem to acquire a lot of frames in my closet.  But I know for sure that (at least the white one) I have a specific purpose in mind this time.
I’ve got some lovely green (lime/avocadoish) spray paint to refinish it and then for inside of it, I’ve been searching for the perfect print on Etsy.
I must resist my feminine urges and pick out something that both my brother (the householder) and my husband will like.  If it were up to me, I would pick something from this store.  I know for sure Matt (bro) will like this one, and frankly my dear I don’t think Phil will give a darn.

As usual, I’ve found more than one that I like, and I’m not sure if I want to choose.  I might buy a couple to use with some stashed frames.  Matt’s new house is in need of art.  He likes the eclectic modern look, and I think that with the pretty painted frame and the modern typographic print, it will suit us him just fine.

This was another fave:
Birdie_print
The entire print says Be Happier than a Bird with a French Fry.  But isn’t that birdie the cutest?  Hmmm… but not too cute for a man to enjoy hanging on the wall, I hope?  :)

domesticated?

I fear my wild days might soon be behind me…  You see, I have within me a desire to make a quilt.  Not only is it strange to me that I actually LIKE a quilt…. but I actually want to MAKE one?  Very strange indeed.

I never really liked quilts until I saw the ones at Anthropologie.  Love them.  Love their quilts!

Anthro
For a wedding gift, Phil’s gma HANDstitched us a quilt, and being the jerk that I am was kinda disapointed that we got a quilt and not something from our registry.  10 months later, it’s on our bed and I love that I have something his gma made and I actually think it’s so cute cause it’s got really rad vintage fabric (yes, I said rad) and lots of different colors.

Yesterday I was looking at different fabrics and went down a rabbit trail that led me to Denyse Schmidt quilts.

Sarita

I think I found the perfect fabric!  The line’s called Katie Jump Rope.  Here’s a pic:

I also liked The Flea Market Fancy Collection:

So I think what I want to do it draw out an organic artsy kinda pattern and try to piece the fabric together in a style similar to this fabric:

Anthro2
I think it would be cool if I could piece the fabric together in a simpler version of this quilt from Antrho.  Obviously much simpler.  But that’s the style I’m going for.

Anyway… that’s my discovery this week.  I like quilts.  huh.

Movin’ on Up!

Yesterday was the inspection on the house that my brother is going to buy (wow He’s all grown up now!). He is my older brother, so I’m okay with the fact that he’s getting a house before me, just as he is okay with the fact that I got married before he ever even had a serious girlfriend.

Anyway, I’m chronicling his adventure so I can make him a scrapbook of his new home. He’s planning on doing a lot of renovations too, which is exciting for me, as a designer, to help him! Here are some of the pictures I took yesterday.

Not all of them turned out as I had hoped, but everyone was running around and I guess my shutter speed isn’t fast enough. Anyway, I like that people aren’t "posed" for the pictures. They’re pretty much used to having the camera around all the time and I don’t think it phases them any more. That would explain the look on my mom’s face as she’s talking on the phone!
