Let the festivities begin!

Thanksgiving is my favorite- because it means decorating for Christmas! :) Last night Phil and I got rid of all the turquoise, put up our fake trees (TWO trees! My parents weren’t using their old one, and we actually had room this year for two.), and put up lights and such around the apartment.

We made cocktails with colors of the season and goofed around just the two of us. I don’t think we ended up even having dinner, though, because we were both so stuffed from an earlier meal at my parents’ home.

Tonight I’m hosting another game night at our place, and I’m so excited for the beginning of the holiday party season. It seems that we have at least three parties every weekend from here on out!

Two years ago I made these stocking out of thrifted sweaters. I just cut the shapes and stitched together the front and the back on my sewing machine. Seeing them on my giant fireplace makes me think maybe I should make bigger ones this year, though!

A big sigh of relief

I finally finished all of my Christmas shopping… okay, well almost. Just one more thing to buy! Today I wrapped everything up and the gifts are sitting pretty under the tree.

Last week I hemmed a skirt which had been sitting around for a while, and was able to use the scraps as an extra detail for the wrapping. I think the grey and red wool fabric is awfully festive, and the plaid adds a bit of a warm lodge feel to our Christmas tree corner.

So what about you? Are you all ready for the holidays?

You might’ve noticed…

Wreath

Or you might not have noticed.
That little wreath in my stocking tree photos. Well, Rachel asked about it. And when Rachel asks, I answer. ;)
To be honest, the wreath didn’t turn out quite like I’d hoped… and that’s why I haven’t said anything about it. I think maybe it would look better in my bedroom. Or a child’s room.

It was very simple, actually. I bought a frame at the thrift store. Painted it green. Then I bought some white felt with glitter on one side of it and a white foam wreath from the craft store. I cut the felt into strips, cut “fringe” along the strips, and curled them with a curling iron (which, believe it or not, took like no time at all!). Then I simply wrapped the strips around the wreath.

For the “bow,” I used vintage quilt piecings, scrunched them together, secured it with a twisty-tie, and then used a thin strip of felt to connect the bow to the wreath and the frame. I was just going to leave it like that, but then I decided I would utilize the left over pom poms from my chandelier. So, literally, I just stuck it on the front. I didn’t use any adhesive. And it’s still just sitting there, not even threatening to fall loose! haha I love little things like that- it’s a gift to an indecisive person like myself. No adhesive= easy to change.

Oh and P.S.
I had a fashion show at lunch today. Sneaks into the newest Half Caf additions tomorrow! Meanwhile, everything in the shop is 40% off.
