Life Lately // Setting up the Nursery

Lately, life around here has been a whirlwind of painting, cleaning, painting some more, cleaning and organizing baby clothes, and crafting up one project after another. We’ve been busy, holed away in the little corner bedroom of our house making preparations for our baby girl, due to arrive on September 21st, and maybe sooner!

I’ve been reminded how grueling painting can be, how finicky I can be about making decorating decisions, and of that saying my favorite professor was known for: “Just because you spent time on it, doesn’t mean you should use it.” I spent 7 hours on Saturday (even breaking my sewing machine, as I was crying about on Twitter) quilting, ironing, and hemming curtains for the nursery, only to decide that night that I hated them on the windows, and that there was no way I was going to use them in the nursery. But I’m not wasteful, so now I have to come up with a different use for the panels. I’m thinking baby blankets! But we’ll see.

In other news, I think the paint fumes are getting to Phil, as you might have figured by his mistaking a paint brush for…. an ice cream cone? We’ve also been dog sitting for the past week- my brother’s dear little dog Archie. He has been loving following us around wherever we go, quite curious about all of the preparations being made in the nursery. I hope he and our little girl will enjoy palling around some day soon!

My boyfriend has a terrier named Archie! A Westie. He’s sitting right next to me at this moment, in fact, staring at the computer screen.

Awwww! Isabelle, that is my favorite breed of dog. And before I got pregnant last Fall, we were going to adopt one into our family. We still have plans to do so in a year or two if we can afford the expense. What happy, pretty doggies they are!

oh mandi! i am so excited to see her little room put together! your interiors are always on my favorites! (maybe when we buy a house, you can come visit and give me ideas.) ;) and i totally know what you mean about the “just because you made it…” thing. i have been sewing riley a quilt and it’s crooked on the back, which has big stripes. i don’t know if i want to scrap it all or finish it now. but anyway, i truly am excited for you both! and your new blog is quite lovely. i don’t know if i’ve commented on it since you made the move, but i really do love it.

I thought of you when I finally pulled out those hangers! (I have two in the set.) I’ve had them for a couple of years, and have been waiting for the right use for them. I thought of you because I remember during one of your trips, you found a vintage shop where they had hangers, but you were sad that they weren’t for sale. I would’ve been too! I’m glad I found these guys! Or should I say, gals. :)

  18. Kris says:

Love those shelves! Do you mind sharing where you purchased those?

    • Mandi says:

They are vintage, and I bought them from Etsy. I saw some other ones for sale, but these were the cheapest, and came in a set, so I snagged ’em up. I searched “vintage shelf” and looked through EVERY page! haha If you’re not psycho like me, you could try searching “interlocking” shelves, but I know that a few of the ones I found weren’t tagged as descriptively as they should be, so that’s why I looked through each page.

  19. Oh goodness, what a beautiful set up already!!!!!!!!
