You know that stranger… the one who consistently shows up at the same coffee shop as you, wearing the cutest outfits you've ever seen, looking all sweet and shy… the girl you really want to talk to, but you're too shy to initiate anything? I call that a friend crush. And I had a major one on Allie Smith for a few months before we met. Thank goodness we did! I've been getting to know her better over the past few months, and stalked her illustration skills before then.

Girl not only has amazing fashion sense, but she's an amazing artist who whips up some really darling illustrations. When I asked her if I could share some of her work with you, she responded in an unbearably cute and humble way, but consented, much to all of our delight.

(That's Allie below, lookin' all charming at the bowling alley)

In our group of friends, we like to come up with fitting and sometimes witty nicknames for each other. Allie's nickname was inspired by an amazing mint and brown outfit she wore out one night. It started as "Mint Chocolate Chip," and evolved into a beloved ice cream sundae name from a local 1960's diner- The Grasshopper. In honor of her new nickname, Allie made this great illustration below.

The first time I discovered Allie's illustrations, I had this overwhelmingly nostalgic feeling, although I couldn't put my finger on why, exactly. Turns out, they remind me of some great '60s cartoons we can all remember watching on Saturday mornings. I'm a bit of a sentimentalist, so the vintage connection really drew me in deeper.

Allie-indianAllie, I think you are a swell girl, and I'm really glad we've become friends. I know your talent, sweet heart, and desire to be better in all things will get you somewhere wonderful in life. (And I think you are already somewhere pretty wonderful.)

Friends, be sure to check out Allie's blog, Swap and Meet, where there are even more wonderful things to discover. Also, Allie, you should start posting some outfit photos on your blog! Seriously.
