WHAT WE WORE | Classy Ice Cream Date

Canton, Ohio mommy blogger

Just when we’re all excited about Fall’s arrival, Ohio’s been experiencing the renaissance of gorgeous Summer days. So much sun. No rain. No wind. Lots of warmth. Our new sweaters lie folded up on the shelves while we donned the most fall-looking bare-legged outfits I can think of. I twisted up my hair and put on this comfy knit shift dress with air-conditioned sleeves while Lucy wore a knit romper and her favorite Saltwater sandals. And then what did we do? What any decent Indian Summer lovin’ gal would do. We went out on an ice cream date!

This weekend we’re going to pretend it feels like Fall and head out to our favorite pumpkin patch as a family. Maybe I’ll even bake up an apple crisp (while wearing a tank top and shorts and sweating my butt off). If we build it, Fall will come, right? Right?

You will no longer see me complaining about the pumpkin obsessed masses who talk about how Summer is over. Instead I have assimilated. Fall, I’m ready for ya!

Comfort Works Ikea Karlstad Slipcover Review

Comfort Works Karlstad Ikea Slipcover Review

I hope you’ve been having fun following along with my living room makeover! I’ve been having a blast over here. The last piece of the puzzle has fallen into place, and I’m so excited to share it with you: The Karlstad 3+2 sectional slipcover! I know before I had said it was the media center, but I stand corrected. THIS is the most dramatic change of the whole makeover. Our living room actually feels sophisticated now!

You may be wondering about the slipcover process, so read on! I put together a review of the Comfort Works slipcover I received for my Ikea Karlstad sectional.

Karlstad Ikea Slipcover Replacement

I found Comfort Works after searching online for Ikea replacement slipcovers, and was really excited about the fabric styles available. I didn’t like the options available at Ikea, and actually my sofa model has been discontinued since then. Yikes! Thank God for Comfort Works. I knew I wanted something light, neutral, and natural (probably linen), and they had a lot of fabric options to choose from. But not so many that it was overwhelming by any means. I ordered 8 fabric samples, and was able to see their comfort and durability ratings, as well as dump coffee on them to see what happened!

My favorite option was the 20% linen 80% viscose blend— Liege Biscuit. It was soft, had the natural look I liked, and my coffee beaded up and dripped right off when I dumped it. That was reassuring! So I ordered the 3+2 sectional slipcover, and also requested that two bolster pillows be made in the same material. I simply provided them with measurements, and they sent the covers with the rest. (I had to stuff them myself when they got here.)

The slipcover arrived in fabric pouch that was shipped inside a medium-size cardboard box. I was actually surprised at how compact it was in there. I excitedly pulled it out, snapped a pic, and put on Tangled to keep Lucy occupied as I set out to slip the new covers over my cushions.

Each of the covers were labeled, so it made it really easy to figure out what went where. The zippers were easy to close, and the covers fit like a glove. Not too tight to zip, but tight enough to to look very tailored.

Of course, because of the linen blend and the compact packaging, the cover had wrinkles after installation. I had thought about steaming it a bit, but then I didn’t get around to it, and now the wrinkles have mostly fallen out on their own, with a bit of subtle wrinkling on the skirt portion, which I actually kind of like. I had wanted the natural linen look, after all. What you see below is after the wrinkles had fallen out. I didn’t do any ironing or steaming.

Comfort Works specializes in Ikea replacement covers, but they also do custom covers. You can contact them with your needs and someone will assist you with what measurements you need and pricing information.

I really adore our new sofa cover, and love the fresh look it’s given to this whole room. The piping details, skirt, and bolster pillows make the sofa feel like a brand new piece. It certainly feels much more expensive than what it is. Ikea? What? No way. YES WAY.

As you can see, the kids are all over this thing. I already had to clean up a couple of food accidents (Cheetos once, chocolate the other time), and it easily wiped clean. Whew! I’m so glad I finally went with the light cover I had been afraid to commit to when I first bought this sofa. I know I wouldn’t have been happy with the Ikea ivory cover, so I’m glad I waited until I found Comfort Works. What a dream this baby is!

Comfort Works gifted me with this slipcover to review and share with you all. Everything I shared is honest and authentic, and I couldn’t be happier with my new slipcover! I know many of you have Ikea furniture too, so hopefully this was a helpful review for you, and I hope you’ll check out Comfort Works if you’re looking to up your furniture game a bit. Thanks for following along!

New Photoshop Actions with A Beautiful Mess!

abeautiful-mess-actions-before-and-after-natural-beauty-5

I’m so excited to announce the launch of the brand new A Beautiful Mess actions for Photoshop and Lightroom! If you really want to take your digital photography to the next level, this is the perfect tool for you! All it takes is one click, and your photos are completely transformed, and you can easily adjust opacity to change the strength of each effect. I love every single one of these filters, and have been using them on my photos for the blog and Instagram for a while now.

You may know that Sarah and I created all of the filters for the A Color Story app, and most recently we’ve been developing similar actions for people to use on their computers with Photoshop and Lightroom. I created a set of basic actions that come free with every Photoshop action pack, and I also designed 15 actions for the Natural Beauty collection and 10 actions for the Black and White + Enhance pack (which also contains some fun effects Sarah designed). Sarah did the Clean + Modern pack as well as Lightroom presets. There’s a lot to love, you guys! Sorry if it sounds like I’m gushing, but I totally am. This is a product I’m really proud of and very much enjoy using myself.

The Basics pack comes free with every action pack and includes five actions that make simple adjustments to your photos. Actions include: “Bright + Warm,” “Bright + Cool,” “Dark + Contrast,” “Sharpen + Pop,” and “Color Enhance.” You can apply these actions before using a more dramatic effect from another pack, or just use them on their own. Here are some examples of me using only actions from the basics pack to kick my photos up a notch.

The Natural Beauty collection is my favorite thing to use on my photos. I designed this pack to mimic the look of both film and vintage magazine editorials. If you’re tired of vintage-inspired filters adding a yellowy cast to your images, this will be a breath of fresh air to you! The filters from the Natural Beauty Collection gives you bright whites (with the exception of a couple of the filters), but the colors take on different moods and all feel very cheerful. I would like to tell you my favorite, but to be honest, I enjoy them all. The ones I use most frequently are “First Love,” “Teen Romance,” “Timeless,” and “Coffee Date.”

Check out some of my edits using filters from this pack! So fun, right?

Finding the right style of black and white editing can be frustrating, especially since your needs change from photo to photo, depending on how light or dark your image is, or depending on how much natural contrast there is. I created ten different black and white actions that will suit a wide variety of photos and styles, creating classic black and white photos that pop much more than a standard black and white effect. I think all of these filters are very usable, without being too extreme or trendy in style.

This pack also comes with effects like flares and light leaks that Sarah designed. Check them out here!
