The Bedroom Redo

Bedroom5First of all, thanks for all of the great advice on Cincinnati!  I love hearing what you all think.  Today I am on my way to Chicago where I’ll be meeting up with some of my crafty lady friends from around the world.  We’ll be visiting the Renegade Craft Festival, so if you see me there, be sure to say hi!  Some of you saw me at Riverfest, but didn’t say hello, which would have been really cool!  (I think Phil would’ve been impressed…)

So, while I’m on the bus to Chitown, take a look into my recent bedroom redo!  Finally, all the pieces have come together.  Lots of diy and vintage goin on, so if you have any questions, be sure to throw them out there!

Oh, and for reference, this is what it looked like before.  And this is what it looked like before that!

Bedroom2I really like the look of big graphic signs in interior spaces, but I can never afford the large vintage ones I want.  So, I decided to make a statement all my own.  I bought a thin piece of plywood and covered it with vinyl letter stickers.  Then, I simply spray painted it black, removed the letters, and voila!  The last touch was carrying it upstairs and drilling it onto the wall.

Bedroom3The far corner of the room is closet land.  I also keep Half Caf’s dressform there with decorative pillows I’m not using.  The checker board is there because it’s sort of a project in waiting… more on that on a later day.

Bedroom4We needed a table next to the bed, but I didn’t want to sacrifice all of the visual space by using a nightstand.  So I bought this little drink table from CB2.  We use it for drinks sometimes, but mostly we just use the light and alarm clock on the top.

Bedroom9A few of you have asked me where I got this light.  I actually found it for a dollar at Goodwill.  So, sorry I couldn’t be of more help!  But- if you like the pillow, you can find it at Urban Outfitters.

Bedroom8This is my side of the bed, and my top of the dresser.  It’s not that I’m not territorial… I just like to have somewhere to put on those last minute touches before leaving the house.  A puff of powder and a spritz of perfume, of course.

Bedroom11Bed linens are a love of mine… and I would have a huge collection if my allowance afforded it.  However, I could afford a set of sheets on sale at Pottery Barn and a duvet from CB2.  As the weather starts getting chillier, there will be a vintage quilt in the mix.  Right now we just have an aqua blanket at the foot of the bed that I found at a loval antique mall.

Bedroom6I made the curtains from some Amy Butler fashion fabric.  The tie backs are from Urban Outfitters.

Bedroom13Bedroom15One of the biggest changes I made with the redo is putting my handmade curtains on all three of our bedroom windows.  The problem was that one of the window had been turned into a door to a closet that was added on to the house.  Although I’m so thankful for my walk in closet, I never knew what to do with the random opening and ugly taupe pocket door that covered it.  So, I treated it like a window!  Duh!  And look at that view!

Here we go again…

The kitchen

Tell me it won’t last forever!
Now it’s the kitchen ceiling’s turn.  Meanwhile, the entire contents of said kitchen are making their home in our dining room.  I’m really glad I’m jet setting it again this weekend…

Oh boy, just what I needed!

Another one joins the family

Another chair.  I was innocently walking by the furniture section at the Goodwill, when this boy caught my eye.
Well, you know… it will be the perfect chair for our bar!  Oh wait… we don’t have a bar?  Oh well… we’ll just put it in the corner and use it when we have people over for game night.  Oh… we haven’t had game night yet after over a year of living in this house?  Hmmmm… well, I’ll find a purpose for it.  Even if it ends up as just a resting place for my shoes.
(Seven dollar, people.  Seven dollars!)
