Frame it up

Frames5

Ah, the art of framing. I love seeing all of the photos across the interweb of interestingly framed art. To me, framing is more than just choosing something to surround art. It's about finding a good placement and arrangement as well. In my own home, I like to use lots of different techniques (seen herehere, and here).

Some of the arrangement styles I've found inspiring on flicker: sitting low, gorgeous antique frames in a modern space, off centered, a grouping of the same yet different thing (love those antique mirrors!), all in a row, propped up on furniture, and lots of large art covering the whole wall. How do you hang your art?

Closet Space

Closet3

When I was in high school, I had this genius idea to take the doors off of my closet and design a kick ass built-in-vanity thing that my dad (who wins the best Dad ever award) built and installed for me. All I had left was 2′ of closet space and an amish built armoir. Needless to say, most of my clothes ended up hanging in the laundry room downstairs, much to Mom’s dismay.

Nowadays, the state of my closet is an odd dormer addition to our home which, in fact, has no insulation. At all. It is absolutely fa-reezing in there! I cannot bring myself to face the frigid little walk in closet to hang up my clothes. As a result, our bedroom has become my closet and I think Phil and I are both ready for some organization. As soon as I kick this illness, I’m up for the challenge. Here’s some inspiration for you. And me, of course.

Arts and Crafts

Arts-and-crafts

Right now I'm working on a project for school involving the Arts and Crafts movement of interior design. It is fast becoming my favorite era of design, and I'm sure it's not difficult for you to tell why. Just look at the timeless simplicity and bold design of each piece. No frills needed.

The architecture is lovely, but I am especially in awe of the prints, textiles, and accessories from the artisans of the movement. I would love to have an original for my own home. But instead, I just drool over the auction sites.
