House Planning | Preparing for Renovations
Lately I’ve been desperately trying to avoid the Veruca Salt complex. You know, that pesky little attitude that makes you say, “I want wallpaper, daddy! I want it now, daddy!” First of all, my daddy heaves a mighty sigh when I even mention wallpaper. Our family has had quite the history of wallpaper removal. So, why would I want to bring that upon myself? (Look at the wallpaper below and you will find out why!) Ah yes. ‘Twould be so lovely. And why stop at the kitchen? Let’s paper the dining room too! And the living room!
Okay, I’ve got issues. And very little money to work them out with wallpaper purchases. Which might be for the better, eh? In any case, I’ve decided against wallpaper anywhere but the small wall space in our kitchen. Instead, we will do a nice warm grey in the living room and dining room, which is open to the kitchen.
And since we’re moving this weekend (ALREADY?!), I’ve been prepping our plans and gearing up to bark out orders gently ask favors of those who have kindly offered to help. So, I guess I will update again once we’ve moved a bunch of boxes and broken out the chain saws and crowbars. Yikes! I thought I said no renovations this time? Ah, I guess we all knew that wouldn’t be the last word.

Ah, this weekend?! Hope the move goes smoothly!
I am so stinking excited for you! The house is going to be gorgeous when you’re done. Good luck with the move
The colors you chose are perfect! Good choices!
love these colors!! we’ve been in our house over a year and i’m still ripping down wallpaper. i’m doing different shades of grey throughout the lower level, i just love it’s versatility!

Super duper love what you have planned…that wallpaper is amazing! Can’t wait to see it come together…
Renovating is the most fun part of moving – getting to make a place your own :) Good luck! Love the wallpaper and the rug!
YAY!! I hope the move goes smoothly and I love your color palette (we chose ours off a similar rug and it looks great!).
it’s so funny you mention this because I feel like I have totally been that girl recently! I want pretty wallpaper soo badly! Even in the bathroom where I know it’s not the most practical haha
that dining room rug!! it’s to die for.
great colors. it’s going to come together beautifully. i can’t wait to see. since i never made it over to try on some more cloths i’ll have to do it at the hew house ;) if you don’t mind my imposing that is!
I wish the wallpaper in our house was that fantastic. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s from the 70s. And not 70s good, 70s bad. Think mauve and country blue seagulls. Ugh. So we started the process of removing it this weekend. It’s in every single room. Yikes. So good luck with your wallpaper hanging! I hope it’s much more fun than removing.
Digging the 70s vibe you have going with your color choices. Wishing you smooth sailing in your renovations.
Demolition and remodel was by far the most fun part of buying our house! Now that it’s over, I want to move again. LOL But seriously, you are going to have soooooooo much fun in your new place! Congrats!!
I am so excited for you! I can’t wait to buy my first home & be able to demo. Good luck!
Renovations are so much fun! My parents were big reno-ers and I think I may have lived about 10 years of my life in an almost constant changing house. Now that I’m married, all I can think of is how to change the house to make it more awesome (although we’re renting, so it’s not so easy!)
I envy you right now! Your new place looks really cute. Have fun!
Love this kind of stuff! I can’t wait until we can afford a home so we can do all the awesome demo/painting/decorating. Good luck with the move! :)
that rug is GORGEOUS! I can’t wait to see what you do Mandi!
LOL! This made me laugh, my husband and I recently bought a ranch style brick home built in 1957. The other night as I’m thumbing through magazines I mention how I would love some beautifully pattered wallpaper in the living room. I not only got a no, but Hell No. I wanted to whine also, but refrained. LOL!
This is all so exciting! Going through the same process just not in my home but a New salon. Build out is starting soon!
Love your space!

oh, I have a love/hate relationship with wallpaper…..however, as along as it doesn’t have ducks, flags or watermelons on it you’re fine.
{I’m just remembering all the borders our house had when we bought it. ugggh, the removal of wallpaper is not fun}
love the rug…..

What a cute collection of colors for your new place! Good luck with the move!
It’s going to look absolutely great!!!
we too have a mid-century home and after buying it, i felt very much like veruca salt. the nice thing is that over time you can really make it perfectly yours. it’ll happen eventually. there are so many gorgeous wallpapers to choose from. good luck and be sure to post photos once you’ve been able to do some papering.
Wallpapers definitely give our homes a brand new look. And you made the right choice to put some in your kitchen. I believe that it will look more spacious with that. And yes, I can already see your renovation plans turning out fresh and clean after everything is done. =)
