Welcome to my office!

There’s something about the impending arrival of Fall that makes me feel a bit more productive- especially domestically. I’m not sure whether it’s the love for all things warm, fuzzy, and holiday related, but in the Fall, I want my home to look the best it can. Even enough to clean up my office space! Our apartment has a very open floorplan, so when my office is cluttered, it makes the rest of the home feel a bit dumpy. Thankfully, I’ve been able to organize things to keep it tidy for the most part. I’ve come a long way since sharing an office space with my brother. Here’s how I keep things organized these days:

  • Utilizing a pegboard wall for shelves, baskets, and hooks for my most used items.
  • Keeping pretty milkglass bowls on the desktop for corralling buttons, tags, and scrap ribbons. I even have a little dome to keep the dust out of my little scraps.
  • Never buy a desk without shelves. I learned that the hard way!
  • Covering an ugly black shelf to hide away the not-so-pretty things I need nearby. (See how I did it at this post on Apartment Therapy.)
  • Hat boxes are pretty storage solutions for larger items.

Great tips! I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my office. It’s not very roomy and I share the space with our library. Plus I have a giant desk that’s good for crafting but can easily become cluttered.

I love the hat boxes! Cute. I’m so horrible at being organized… but I agree, something about fall makes me feel much more productive, as well.

Love the pegboard! And I love that it doesn’t look too staged, you clearly use this desk the way it is (don’t you hate the ones that only have a computer and that’s it?). :) Jealous of the great light you get too!

Is it just me, or does having a clean space make one feel more “affluent?” Whenever our house (and ESPECIALLY) my office is clean, I feel … richer, or something. Maybe I just feel more like a capable badass.
Anyway, I believe the feng shui adage that goes something like, “when your space is clear, your mind is clear.” Your office is so cute and neat Mandi, and I’m oh-so-envious of your wooden floors and arched entryway!

I love your office; it’s organized without looking clinical and sterile.
The typewriter made me cry though! Mom always had a typewriter like that on her desk! What a memory; thank you in spite of the tears.

I’ve been sitting on the idea of pegboard for my office for a while and 2 days ago decided that this saturday is the day to do it. Finding this post is like last minute encouragement! thanks
