Wardrobe | Keeping Cool in Cotton Lace
Every once in a while, it’s okay for a girl to splurge… right? I’ve been really itching to try out the sheer maxi trend, but for the most part just couldn’t see that look fitting in with my personal style. When I saw this 1930’s eyelet lace dress, I knew it would be just the ticket!
Instead of wearing a full slip, or conversely, just my skivvies, I thought it would be sort of daring, and pretty cool, to wear a black bra and my old spandex volleyball shorts underneath this classic dress. To tie in the black, I donned a dark grey belt and carried a brown and black striped purse (which also gave a nod to my amber necklace). I’m totally in love, and definitely not regretting the splurge!

This dress fits you soooo goood!!! I love the pretty yellow against the black under-things and the hair and makeup just pulled together the whole pretty look. I have a dress quite similar in style and era, so I may be to pull it out and try something similar.

Gorgeous, you have the most incredible outfits!
That colour is gorgeous!
Hello, I have just found your blog and its lovely. I really like this dress its so pretty, but I wanted to ask you something. I am a much bigger size than you, but when I saw some of your knee length outfits on you I though you looked longer and leaner and I wondered if you felt like that too. I tend to wear long things (to cover up), but now I am wondering if knee length would work for me too.

Could be one of my faves! That shade of yellow is dashing on you! That first picture makes me think of rainbow sherbert ice cream :)
Mandi, this outfit looks so nice on you! I love the maxi eyelet dress. It’s beeeeautiful! (and so are you!) ?
Valerie,
I think proportions are important. If I wear something to my knee, I make sure it has a high waist to it, so that my lower half appears longer and leaner. In turn, I wear a higher neckline for the same reason. Also, color is important. If you want to appear longer and leaner, wearing similar colors on the top and bottom helps, and nude shoes with nude legs (or brown tights with brown shoes) helps create that look too. Those aren’t steadfast rules, but just what I’ve discovered to be helpful! :)
wow, that outfit looks gorgeous! so very flattering on you! also love your hair, it’s so pretty :)

you are stunning in this dress! I love how you decided to be a bit daring with what you wore underneath.
love it mandi!!
I know what you mean about taking the “sheer” plunge. A little nerve wracking for me – plus I couldn’t begin to think about wearing it to work. But I like that you chose a nice color and then brough the peek a boo edge with the black undergarments. it makes it cute and classic and sexy all together.
And your hair is getting so long! I love it
