The Annual Shark Week Commemoration Dinner
Our little dinner party has been in the makings for a while. Josh wanted to whip up some delicious food that any of our allergy-ridden and picky-eating friends could enjoy, while I’ve been itching to host friends in my home again. So, coinciding with the end of Shark Week, we enjoyed a low key dinner party with good eats and fun games.
Our group of friends include vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, pescatarian, and non-sea-food eaters. The mix makes for kind of a nightmare when planning a small feast, but Josh did wonderfully in his considerations of everyone. Each person brought an ingredient, and Josh prepared bruschetta appetizers (some gluten-free, some dairy-free), a goat cheese, tomato, and olive salad, curried squash and chickpeas served over polenta, roasted asparagus, and seared salmon.
After dinner, we played a hearty round of Loaded Questions, a game in which one person reads a question, everyone answers, and the reader has to guess which person belongs to which answer. For example, “If you were on America’s Most Wanted list, what would be your crime?” Answer: “Extreme abuse of Jedi mind tricks.”
After the game was over, we played a few boisterous rounds of BS (during which I ended up with almost an entire deck of cards in my hands) intermingled with giggle infused bubble blowing sessions. The whole evening was so much fun that we decided it will be a monthly event, with hopefully even more of our friends, Shark Week or no.

girl, this is sure to be your most random q of the day, but can you tell me about that garment rack? i have yet to find one sturdy enough to hold all my dresses, let alone all my dresses on wooden hangers. where did you find it? thanks. :)
coming out of lurkdom to say how much I enjoy your blog. love the photos! looks like a fun time was had by all:)
This looks like such a fun time! Seriously. I’d love to host dinner parties!
As a Wisconsinite, I heartily approve of your choice of beer. ;)
What a fun time, and how patient you were with all the dietary issues. As someone only just learning to cook, that would send my head into an exorcist spin.
On another matter, how is it that all the men and women in your life are so good looking? Seriously. Isn’t there a law of the universe that is supposed to balance things out a little better than this? :-)
This looks like it was such a great time! I’ve never heard of Loaded Questions, gonna have to try it.
I just CAN’T watch shark week. I would never go in the ocean again.
Looks like loads of fun! Summer Shandy has been my beer of choice this summer. It’s like drinking lemonade! ;)
Looks like fun, and i like how it was in celebration of shark week :)
Hey Marissa! I just got it from Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s a double rack, so that helps with the sturdiness. There are clothes on both sides. :)
This looks like so much fun & your photos are awesome. My friends and I had a shark week party too. :)
What a great idea! I wish I had my own place where I could have a party with my friends. <3
The food sounds fabulous…up my alley….dairy free…salmon..yum ;)
Is it weird that I’m Josh’s bosses wife??? Lol!
This is AWESOME!! So, so much fun!! Thanks for the inspiration-and the pictures are gorgeous :)

Looks like so much fun! Mmmm roasted asparagus. Are those string lights around your window? So pretty!
thanks, lady!
Your dinner dilemma made me chuckle because we’re currently living with another couple and one of them is a gluten free vegan. It certainly can make dinners tricky but it’s also fun to find new recipes!
the question game sounds like fun.
i have to try that game
nice choice of beer ;-) love it!
