My Skin Care Regimen

Beauty-skin-care-1

We’re all accutely aware of our own faults, our own blemishes. And how much more so the little bumps on one’s face that are so miserably obvious when one stares at them through a magnifying mirror. Through my high school and college years, it seemed that the magnified mirror was teaming up with my own beautifully skinned best friends, telling me that my face wasn’t good enough. Pile on the makeup, hide your face with your hands, and the wretched problem only ever got worse.

I went through bottles and tubes and tubs of every single skin care line I could get my hands on. Birth control helped for a bit, but I decided it wasn’t for me. All of those hormones messing with my body’s natural state. So the pimples came back, and with a vengence.

Pie-chart

Well, recently I’ve come to peace with my skin. I’ve figured out how to properly treat it, and found a line of products that balances its bi-polar behaviors. These days I even have people telling me that my skin looks beautiful, and asking what kind of makeup I use. To be honest, I don’t really use great makeup, and don’t wear it that often.

When I had readers ask about my skin care regimen, I figured I should dedicate a post to the issue. Yes, I’ve suffered. Yes, I still suffer occassionaly (once a month, to be precise). But what has worked for me is washing my skin (which I found to actually be sensitive, as greasy as it was) with a gentle cleanser, using a mild astringement afterwards, and then finishing with a medium-weight facial lotion. Once a week I use a pore clarifying mask, and every day I use eye cream to make those dark circles fade a bit.

The line I settled on is from Artistry (sold through an Amway independant business owner), and I believe it’s called the balancing line. Anyway, it looks like this (image below). If you have also suffered from manic skin, greasy one season, desert dry the next, I would really reccomend this product. (If you don’t know an Amway independant business owner, email me for more information about purchasing Artistry products.)

In the near future, I’ll be doing a write-up about the makeup I use as well!

I was so excited to read this post, and then your pie chart and it’s credit totally caught me off guard and made me laugh!
Love this and your suggestions- now doubly so :)

  2. Ahh – as a 26 year old who’s skin still thinks it’s 16, mostly, I’m loving this – I’m struggling to find that balance, myself…or just figuring out how to trick my skin into thinking it’s older?? lol. Thanks for the tips!

This seems like it’s worth checking out… I’m 19 and have ok skin (goes back and forth with being oily and dry).. it mostly acts up when I’m at school in the city. I think I’ll look into this, especially since you seem to really stand behind it.

Oh nice! I feel your pain and share your excitement that you’ve found the right line of products. I’m 26 and my skin hasn’t stopped breaking out. I’ve recently started using two Bio Beaut? by Nuxe products that are helping a bit, and are so great to use. They feel amazing. I’ve switched from an astringent-based make up remover to an oil-based make up remover that you warm between your palms and massage into your skin. I hope to see much better results in a few weeks.

The best and cheapest product I’ve ever used is chamomile! I am 21, and my skin has always been super sensitive, anything makes me break out. But now I steam my face in chamomile tea for ten minutes every night, and then I use the teabag as toner afterwards. And my skin is so much clearer now, and way less greasy, and the huge pores seems to have disappeared as well ^^,
But anyway, it is wonderful that you are posting this, I think younger blog readers needs to read that everything isn’t always perfect.

  7. I think we have the same skin condition, my skin is very bipolar. I never know what I am going to wake up to. I will for sure be looking into this line.

I’m so jealous of your awesome skin. I’m 26 and I don’t think it’s balanced at all I still deal with acne and I hate it. thanks for the tips

  9. very cool. I’ll have to look into that. I still get zits often and am 27 years old. I didn’t get my first zit until I was nearly 18. It is cruel that now I am a teenager haha. I’ve actually learned to shrug it off. I have zit scars and thankfully they aren’t too noticeable in photos (but are in person especially when I smile since I have a few on my smile lines).

  10. Most of us been tried to make our skin more beautiful. So it so nice to know that there are site like this exist giving a lot of tips for us.

  11. I started using birth control at the beginning of the year but also decided against it after a few months. I really don’t like the idea of pumping my body full of unnatural things. I’m still only 17 so I’ve just kind of come to terms with the fact that my skin isn’t going to be perfect at this age. And to be honest after going off the pill I haven’t actually noticed my skin getting any worse.

Thanks for posting this! I love reading your blog. I’m actually looking into getting one of the lines from artisty, just not sure which one. I think I will try the balancing line! I just started with amway, so hearing about the products from a first hand account is helpful. Can’t wait for your make-up post!

Hey, that’s a great regimen- simple, exact, regular. With your smooth skin and sound advice, you offer proof that it doesn’t take 20 different products to have blemish-free skin.
