Nash Bash Part One

Nashville is, of course, the music capital and whatnot… but it also happens to be the current home of our very good friend, Austin. Since December, the kids of Canton have been discussing a roadtrip to visit this dear soul, but when it came down to it, only three of us were up for the trip. So, Kyle, Jessica, and I packed up my little car last Friday morning and sang and talked our way through the nine hour drive. Also, let it be known, that I can talk about music and movies for hours. Hours I tell you! Thank God for friends who can do the same. :)

The trip was more friend-focused than actually visiting the city of Nashville. We did, however, get to go to Austin’s favorite hang outs, like the Frothy Monkey, Thai food markets, vintage shops, and even a couple of visits to Cafe Coco (we need a cafe like this in Canton, for sure! Lattes, AND beers! And an outdoor patio!). We made a couple of meals at Austin’s home, and enjoyed a total of four bottles of wine. I chose mine for the label. Of course. ;)

The photography responsibilities of the weekend were split between myself and Kyle. And I’ll be sharing his photos whenever he gives them up. Which is always after an unknown period of time, because this boy is a photo hoarder. Errr… he’s very picky about the photos he shows to the world. Consider it a chaste form of photography, if you will.

Unfortunately, vintage shopping in Nashville is almost four times as expensive as it is here in Northeast Ohio. So I couldn’t bring myself to actually buy anything. But the lady at the particular shop we visited remarked on my bag… which always gives me a complex like the shop keeper thinks I’m going to shop lift or something. I always get stares at my big bag. Oh well. I would never do anything like that, so I always ramble on about the thrift store where I got it, or how it used to be a back pack and I turned it into a side-satchel. You’ll have that, I suppose.

We also visited the local “lookout point” where couples lay intimately across the green hill, or sit stealthily in their cars alongside the road. I felt like I was in a scene straight out of Happy Days, only modernized with SUVs and satellite radio. But check out that view! Just lovely.

ANYWAYZ, that was my creepy way of saying hi. I reeeeaaaaaally hope you bought those glasses because they are supa fly and will look RAD when you take up pipe smoking again ;)

OH so fun! I pick my wine by the labels too! They taste better that way. :) Haha I laughed at your comment on my post…sometimes my mom drives me crazy when we shop together. shhh don’t tell her that.

Oh, I’m jealous! My friends hate having their photos taken, sadly. It looks like you had a great time! I’ve been to Memphis, which I really enjoyed, but not Nashville. It’s on my list!

Oh my gosh! :) dude…I so love Nashville!!!! One, Kyle’s hat is awesome. Two, Frothy Monkey is delicious! Three, vintage certainly is a bit pricey there…unfortunately, but I was informed of some really lovely places that were still great to visit. & Mas Tacos is amazing, by the by.
hehe next time you go…I’ma gonna hitch a ride with you guys. It looks like you had a lovely time!

BRING KYLE TO ME THIS SUMMER! I promise I am exciting, and I have the cafe under control so I will be more focused on friends….(and Mister is mine now so there wont be as much giddy boy talk). PLUS I’ve scoped out new photog spots!
but I owe you a visit first. Just saying…start putting this in his head. I’d much rather him sleep on my couch, cos I feel like we are already friends, than that harrisburg dude.
this probably should have been in an email…whoops.
that twitter blog post of yours before this one was very charming and I liked it a lot : )
    love you. SO MUCH

wow, that looks like so much fun!
but now i would like to see a picture of your bag ;)

  14. wow a 9 hour drive! That’s great. That is like when I go to visit one of my best friends in Maine who lives 8 hours away. It is so exciting because I can read a book and a half going up (although I tend to talk the majority of the journey with Rob).
I can’t believe it is so pricey to thrift in Nashville and so cheap in Ohio! I always thought things were pretty cheap in Nashville from what you see all those bloggers posting and such. If only NJ had good thrifts.
    That look-out point is gorgeous.
Awww you have big earlobes and I have tiny ones. how fun! yeah if you were to watch Doctor Who, I would suggest definitely starting with the 4th Doctor episodes probably. You’d totally love all the outfits worn by his companions: Sarah-Jane Smith, Leela, Romana and Romana II especially. If you watch the 3rd Doctor you’d enjoy Jo Grant and Sarah-Jane Smith’s outfits too. But of course I don’t recommend watching it just for their 70s fashion ;)

I always get paranoid that people are thinking that I’m going to shoplift because I carry a massive bag as well! The worst is when you are at a supermarket and the stupid security door alarm goes off and so you look even guiltier, even though those stupid things malfunction all the time. The Road Trip looks like awesome good fun! (-:

  16. Fun! I’m so glad you had such a great time. :) Visiting friends is the best.
Frothy Monkey is one of my favorites. So good! And yes, unfortunately vintage shopping here can be pretty pricey. I find my best vintage deals at estate sales.

  17. I always hear such great things about Nashville, I need to get my butt there asap and visit the city. Looks like you had a blast

So happy you had a good trip to Nash! I love living here & am most definitely a regular at frothy & cafe coco. I’ve never managed to get myself to that look-out though, which I see is a must! beautiful photo.
