Kara of I Just Might Explode
Resolution #8:
Start an Art Journal
Guest Blog post by Kara
Hello! My name is Kara Haupt and I blog at I Just Might Explode.
I started my art journal about three and a half years ago (see above image). I had been scrapbooking for awhile, but was inspired to start an art journal after seeing some online. I didn't have the type of book the artist recommended, so I used what I had on hand- a wide rule composition book- and I've been hooked ever since.
I find art journaling to be a "no-rules" type of scrapbooking. With my scrapbooks I felt compelled to use a lot of photos or make pages with more than just a phrase. With my art journals, I can make a page with whatever. Sometimes I'll just make a pretty design with one word or use catalog images(my favs are from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters!) and if I don't like something, I'll just rip it out.
Starting an art journal shouldn't be intimidating. I mod-podge vintage records to the cover and add a doily clasp (instructions to do this are in this class). You can decorate your cover however you'd like, but it's easier to feel inspired to make pages if your cover is cute! Grab a gluestick and glue 3 or 4 pages together, cover a page in paint, and use some favorite song lyrics to get started. Art journals are an awesome creative release, free therapy, and a fantastic thing to look back on.

That seems great… I had the same resolution and find it already not obvious … I may be inconsistent? You encourage me and your pages are great!
Take care, Mireille

Thank you for this! I’ve always been fond of scrapbooking and collage-making but I’ve never thought of having a book specifically for it. Hmmm, I think I have the perfect one!
