feelin’ the banjo & ukulele these days.
Throw in some low-fi recording with harmonica playing and perfect-pitch whistling, and I’m just a goner. That’s all there is to it. I’m not sure when it happened, but I’m just a sucker for some gold ol’ fashioned southern-inspired music.
Some boys from my town have a beautiful sounding band that hits me right here (here being my music soul, I guess?). Fast Molasses and the Flavored Blacks have come a long way since they made this trippy video two years ago, so if you’re into this kind of music too, check out their Myspace page. (My friend Josh is the guy in this video, and fortunately, he has changed his hair since then. ;))

Ah, lovely! If there’s a banjo, I’m there lately, too. I love Black Rebel to bits – and Alexi Murdoch! The Ghost Bees & The Be Good Tanyas (an old broken-up local) are good girl banjo’s I love. :) Yummy!

love me some stringed instruments! i don’t know if you’ve ever seen the movie ‘andersonville’ (highly recommend it- civil war prison camp. hella dramatic) but there’s some pretty good banjo picking in it. i also just bought a ukulele despite being completely tone deaf and i’m hoping to be able to pluck out a few sorry songs myself.
