Cheating on the Outdoors

Ds10

I need a garden. Even if it’s just one potted plant. I’m graving some natural greenery around these parts. Maybe it’s all this talk about how I wish I love the outdoors. Maybe it’s the landscaping happening outside my apartment window. Or maybe it’s lack of oxygen? In any case… I’ve been dying for some nice houseplants ever since I killed our house plants about a year ago.

My grandmother was quite a houseplant keeper extraordinaire. When she passed away, I took all of her houseplants and loyally tended to them in some kind of misguided effort to keep something of Gramma’s alive. Silly me, so much of her was alive through photos, memories, and the legacy she left behind. But that didn’t make me feel any better when I saw the shriveled up plants after the first frost of 2009. Bum-mer!

I suppose I’m just terribly romantic. Although, my romantic status is somewhat of a closet case. But I long to someday live in a home with a swoon-worthy garden space. I think it would be amazingly inspiring, yeah? Just as long as I have a gardener on staff. I would hate to get my hands dirty. ;) (Oh my. I’m not getting very far with my goal to be more outdoorsy, am I?! Help!!)

I’m a huge fan of gardening, my raspberrry bushes are starting to give me berries and I can’t really describe the geeky happy it brings me :)
(Of course, it helps to have a husband who will water it for me when I’m not feeling outdoorsy lol)

Maybe you just need a big floppy gardening hat and some cute gloves?

I completely understand your desire for green plants. We live in a converted attic apartment and the first thing I did was plant a window box full of herbs that sits on the fire escape and I have two little gerber daisies growing in recycled soda cans.

I love the images you posted. I was going through an old diary of mine from when I was like 13 and I had drawn a picture of how I want to be as an adult. It showed me in a rustic garden living in a stone cottage.
    sigh
    someday.

  9. I love gardening. Growing up till around 2 years ago my father had an awesome vegetable garden. And my sister had a secret garden of sorts with a small greenhouse. It runs through my blood, I can’t wait for the day when I can plant things again. Anyway, start small and you will get the hang of it. Your a creative person, I think this hobby will be another notch on your belt in no time!

What beautiful photos. I wish I had a green thumb. I think I would enjoy gardening more if my plants would stay alive.
