I Adore Being a Girl
Since my toddler years, I have had a fascination with the vanity. Not with vanity, as in the preoccupation with one's appearance, but with the table that holds all of the pretty powder puffs, glass jars, and glistening tubes of bright red lipstick. I remember back in the Minnie Mouse Book Club days when Minnie and friends went shopping at the drug store and perused the aisles of pretty facetted jars and bottles. I remember when I swiped my mother's turquoise blue eyeshadow onto my own eyelids and tried to convince her that I hadn't been snooping in her makeup drawer. (I know what you're thinking… turquoise?! Don't judge. It was the 80s.) Ah, and how could I forget Tinkerbell! I had a pretty pastel tube of lipstick that my mother let me use when I was playing at home.
Any then, in fifth grade, my mini obsession with the vanity turned into a major obsession with collecting vintage perfume bottles. I have quite the collection sitting in my hope chest (Yes, I have a hope chest. And yes, I'm married. And yes it's filled with my American Girl doll collection and pretty things I hope to share with a daughter someday.) waiting until I have a proper vanity on which to display them. But for now, I can't resist the occasional splurge at an antique shop, and, of course… Etsy. Here's a round up of the prettiest Etsy has to offer, just in case you have a similar weakness for the little darlings.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has an American Girl doll stored away for a future daughter. The perfume bottles are really cute, I love the baby deer one!
My “mini” hope chest is full of my American Girl dolls too! Which ones do you have?
I love old perfume bottles as well! Do you happen to know how to get the stinky old perfume smell out of them?
oh indeed. I used to want a vanity when I was a child too. They are so expensive but gorgeous!!!!!
ooooooh, me too me too!!!!! my grandma always had a vanity in her bedroom and I am actually the proud owner of it now! needs some TLC and then it will shine…all I need now are those gorgeous little bottles to add the perfect touch!! :)

Megan, I have noooo idea! haha I usually just use them as decoration, so I’ve never tried to get the scent out. I’ve hear ground coffee and newspaper are good to get stink out of old dresser drawers. Maybe you could try that?
Alexandra, I was/am obsessed with the historical American Girls! I have Felicity, Addy, and Kirsten. I would’ve had them all if my parents had money and spoiled me. :) But I took good care of them and I think they were a great part of why I love history so much to this day.
I also subscribed to the Minnie Mouse Book Club and I know exactly which illustration you are referencing! I bet my mom still has all those books to pass on to my daughter some day…

A healthy body needs a good shoe, meaning you have to wear shoes for you. I think a good pair of shoes as my faithful friend, so I always find the most suitable and favorite shoes, if you agree with my view…

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who had a million dolls, and still loves them so! I had Molly, Samantha, Kirsten, and Josefina. I loved playing with them, and reading the stories. I refuse to let my mom get rid of any of the books!

Oh my, I have that owl Avon bottle – so cute! And I can’t even explain how much I love that silver deer one. I too would love a vanity dresser – covered in bottles and jars.
There’s something that makes you feel so classy and feminine sitting in front of a vanity. =)I got lucky and my mom bought me a vanity when i was young.. and i ended up taping and gluing nsync and backstreet boys posters and stickers all over it and ended up making it not so classy. so after some refurbishing its like new again and i love and appreciate it now. im so glad you posted this!

Being self conscious is a very common feeling and attitude of a girl or lady.
Perfume and other cool stuffs are what they really love. Cool collection, I definitely adore collectors for having a passion in such things.
