Fate is tempting me.
With my internship nearing its close I've been struggling with the desire to be an eight-to-five career woman. People ask me what I want to do, and I tell them sheepishly that I would like to be my own buyer, manager, and head of marketing for a vintage shop. This is what I love. The hunt. Last week I went thrifting for the first time in months! Months I tell you! I walk into the store and not only do I find a shopping cart full of awesome clothes (which will be up in the shop in a week or so), but this beautiful hutch was staring me in the face. I'm telling you, this might be a sign. This is my calling in life. But if it's not, I still find the concept awfully tempting.
We've placed the little hutch in the entryway, although to be honest, I'm not quite sure what to put inside of it. I'm thinking it would a good place to keep store merchandise! I'm telling you… it. is. a. sign. But for now, I shall keep myself preoccupied with finding a home for all of the art which has been displaced by the grand hutch. Step by step, people.

What a great piece! I’m on the hunt for something similar for our dining room. :)
What is stopping you for opening a store? I say go for it! You’ve got a great eye, you have a degree it up, and you have a strong desire. Sounds like someone who deserves a small business loan!
I’d definitely shop at your store. Of course, I’m a bit of a drive away…
Good luck!
That hutch is totally a sign, and a beautiful one at that. You would rule at running and merchandising your own shop!
That hutch is amazing! Great find. :)
I’m getting ready to start my online vintage shop, and I’m already dreaming of taking that big step into making it a brick and mortar dream… it’s scary and exciting all at the same time. And I get funny looks from people when I tell them what I want to do “when I grow up”. It’s nice to see that someone I truly admire has the same dreams and doubts rolled into one emotion.
Thanks for always sharing your finds. They inspire me. And keep shopping!
I love that piece. Owning a vintage store would be an interesting job.. different everyday
I love it! I’ve been looking for something like that, but for now have settled on a nice, loooong dresser that I shall paint and display some of my fiestaware on. :)
aw… when you talk about how you want to be your own buyer, manager, and head of marketing for a vintage shop I just want to jump in and say “Im In!” I hope everything works out great :)
This is an amazing find! I’ll echo some of the other comments and say – go for it! You’ve got the desire and the taste to back it up.
It’s gorgeous! What a find. :)
I had the same visions when I was your age! My problem was that I was single at the time! If I had been married, I would have done it. Now would be the time for you to do it, before you have children (if they are in your future)
Good Luck!
PS – I’m referring back to your post a while ago about recycling the paper bags into shipping env. – My mother just gave me a bunch of bags to recycle and I’m going to do your idea instead! thanks for the idea!
Amy
WOW, that hutch is beautiful. seriously beautiful!!
Wow, that is a gorgeous piece! And all I can say is follow your dreams (the corniest way to phrase it, but just so fitting!).
Following fate right out of school is by far the best idea! I mean you’re young enough that if you fail it’s ok. And if you don’t do it, you’ll *always* wonder, ‘what it?’
DO IT. !
You’ll never know until you try! There’s hardly any risk involved, you already have the taste, the design skills… etc… all you need to do is find a spot and pay the rent! :) Can’t wait to see what comes of it!
do what you love!!!!! you are already do it online – so you know you can do it. after many years of trying to fit my creative self into the business world and winding up totally burned out (even in the creative business world) i say GO FOR IT!
