easter traditions are silly.

Okay, I will admit it. Hunting for Easter eggs and engaging in epic candy swapping sessions with my cousins and our Easter baskets is a great memory from my childhood. But as a Christian, I can't help but think about how ridiculous the Easter traditions we practice really are.

I've been known to sometimes rant on the topic, but instead of ranting, I'm going to divulge to you a super secret Easter tradition of mine. It's just as silly as Easter eggs and Easter candy. I like to think of it as happily wedding Mr. Easter Bunny with the love of my life. James Stewart. Yes, my Easter tradition is watching the ridiculously silly Jimmy Stewart movie, Harvey.

The truth is, I really don't like this movie very much. But for some reason I always have to watch it. I think it's because I know it was Jimmy's personal favorite film and so I feel like I should like it too since, you know, we're BFFs and all.

In fact, one Spring I even made a pilgrimage to Indiana, Pennsylvania to the Jimmy Stewart museum and posed with a life sized (stuffed) Mr. Harvey. 'Tis true. Now you know all about my embarrassing Jimmy Stewart obsession and yearly Harvey watching tradition. Still friends?

Haha yes, still friends. As a Christian as well all the traditions seems silly and just distracting from the seriousness of the holiday, but I also have good memories hunting for easter eggs as a child : P In fact, I’m filling up the eggs today for the hunt later this weekend for my cousins!

how awesome! I am partial to having to watch “it’s a wonderful life” every year at Christmas. This year it was only on once, I taped it and hubby erased it…let’s just say I was NOT a happy camper :)

I just saw that movie for the first time this past year. I loved it! It was weird for sure…but charming, too.

i’ve always thought the egg tradition was so weird. even though i love hiding them for the little kids in the family. ;)
and i have always adored jimmy stewart. there’s no one like him. i believe he has the most distinct voice of all time. seriously.
i’ve never watched “harvey”, but the local high school here is doing a production of it this spring. wonder if it’d be worth seeing….

  9. aww i’m sorry you don’t enjoy Harvey much. I adore that movie a lot. It always makes me laugh. I just finished reading a book about his Bomber career. He’s my favourite actor of all time. I think I wouldn’t enjoy watching the movie every single year though.
It is wonderful to know there are other Christian bloggers by the way. . .I don’t know of many at all. It makes me a bit lonely at times in the internet world.

That is such a ridiculous movie, but a very cute one. Not Jimmy Stewart’s best movie, but definitely one of the most fun to watch :)

I’ve always loved Jimmy Stewart, and Harvey is such an enjoyable film. Not as good as his Christmas films, but still a lovely film. I must admit though, I enjoy the play slightly more than the film version. By the way, where is this photo of you posing with Harvey at the Jimmy Stewart Museum??
