Just another thing to collect
Show and tell on Miss James's blog! On Christmas day, my father gave me his old record player that I thought he had given away years ago! Since then, I've been excitedly listening to his vinyl lps, and every time I head out for some vintage shopping, I've been snagging up a record or two for my new collection.
But the other day, Phil spoke some needed truth into my life… he said, "So, uh, Mandi…? Are you listening to this record because you actually like this record? Or just because it's a record and it makes crackly noises?"
Hmmm… maybe it's time I reevaluate this little collection of mine… And I think I'll get rid of the Swannee River record.

Mandi-
I grew up in the “vinyl” age…and just so you know, there is NO richer sound than that of “virgin vinyl” … on a good player…and in good condition!
But TAKE HEART! Many new bands are releasing their stuff on vinyl – so go forth and find it!! Ask a local record store!
ENJOY!
Let me know if there is a certain album you want for your collection–we have a great vinyl place here where I live, and they sell a lot of “obscure” albums.
And it makes me feel old to realize that I was a teenager in the days of albums.
I used to have my own record player, wonder what happened to it…very cool. dave said that about my collections, too. So, “What do you collect? Matryoshkas, old cameras, doilies, milkglass, birds, things that are dutch folk, vintage jewelry, ummm…what don’t you collect?” ha!
and what is that on the side??? Your own actions? I’m off to investigate!!
Back in the 90s I was an avid collector of 8track tapes. I would scour thrift stores and in my frenzied search, snatch up any 8track tape that I could find, even music that I hated (I bought it b/c it was on 8track). After I amassed almost 1,000 tapes, I knew I had a problem.
Since then I’ve pared down my collection considerably, and have only kept those tapes and players that I really love. You should keep/buy only those records that you really love and listen to.
i’ve been manic about buying records since i got my record player for christmas! and the crackling sounds are the best part of records. it’s a sound of my childhood that i adore.
nice posting …
give me u lingk to please…
