Julie Christie
The movie was called Darling. The actress was Julie Christie. It was one of those movies that struck a chord deep within me. I can’t really explain why or how, but it affected me more than any film I’ve ever seen. I could really relate to Julie Christie’s character. She wanted so much from life, but never really knew what it was… and then I think she realized that everything she had wanted had passed her by. I have this hidden fear that someday that will happen to me. The emotions I felt after watching this film were so surprising. And I still can’t stop thinking about it. So, maybe it would stand to reason that I am now obsessed with the 1960’s Julie Christie.
I think she might be my new style icon. And now I’m on the hunt to see more of the films she was in during the ’60’s. Any suggestions, dear friends?
P.S., I had this post scheduled to run a week ago, and on Monday, I was surprised to see that Danielle Thompson had posted about Julie Christie and Darling as well! Such kindred spirits, I’d say!

Oh I love this movie. Saw it as teenager and so should see it again now. I love how much you adore Old movies. There nothing like it:) I saw in early post also something about montgomery clift. Oh yeah he was fine:) and I loved him in Raintree County. Such a A liz taylor- esque GWTW. You should check it out if you have not seen it already:)
Hi, I am fairly new to your blog and I wanted to say that I love it! So much fun!
As for Julie Christie, if you haven’t seen Dr. Zhivago, it’s beautiful, and there are lots of big fur hats. :-) The style is obviously not 60s, but somehow Julie manages to have an almost-beehive updo with bangs.
Petulia is an awesome film starring Julie Christie. She wears some fabulous 60s clothes. Lots of great 60s music in the film as well(Janis Joplin makes a cameo, and so does the Grateful Dead). Other recommendations are Billy Liar, Far from the Madding Crowd and of course Dr. Zhivago.
For a film class I recently took, we had to watch two Julie Christie movies. Petulia and Don’t Look Now. I highly recommend both. I remember when I first watched Don’t Look Now, I immediately went on IMDB to learn more about her because I was just smitten with her!
I’ll have to watch Darling soon.
I have to see this movie now!
I really love the hair and makeup.
shes beautiful!
Love that 60’s style.
I think Dr. Strangelove is from that era, and I’m sure A Raisin in the Sun is (maybe late, late 50’s?),Breakfast at Tiffany’s,and I’m not sure of the fashion angle, but the Misfits with your Mr. M Cliff. And don’t forget Bond Films.
I second Petulia. It’s one of my favorites along with Darling. Even though it is from the 70’s Shampoo is another good one.
I don’t know what I would do without TCM:)

I have never seen a single movie with Julie Christie but she is a doll and if the movie Darling affected you so much I might just see if i can get my hands on it and give it a watch. The premise sure sounds interesting…most movies today are about a load of nonsense…
