I’ve been vicariously finding furniture.

Check out this fabulous desk that this little lady found on the sidewalk! What luck! And what neighbors!

(By the ways, besides having an eye for finding awesome furniture, Jasmine also has great fashion sense…. and according to her flickr profile- now I’m starting to sound like a stalker- she’s originally from my wonderful home state of Ohio! Holla!)

So, speaking of unwanted goods, our trash day was yesterdayy, and when it’s not blizzarding outside, there is this guy who usually drives around our neighborhood in a black pick-up-truck dumpster diving for treasures. The crazy thing is that his tuck is always loaded full! It makes me wonder… am I missing out? So I’m trying to decide if I should relegate my treasure finding to incidental sidewalk finds (which, let’s face it, never happens) or should I step it up another notch? Meh. Probably not.

the typewriter and suitcase adds a wonderful touch to this little office space. restoring old furniture makes for the neatest hobby! Sidewalk finds can turn into craft time bliss >_<

my husband always rolls his eyes if I ask him to pull over so we can look at a piece that someone has thrown out. Although, we’ve found some pretty cool stuff!

It is always nice to pick things up for free that will make your day. Congratulations on the find.

I’m lucky enough to live on a street that when someone doesn’t want something it just goes out at the end of their driveway. I scored a really cute arm chair this way and some tables.
The downside is that sometimes really ugly or broken things go out and no one wants them so they sit for awhile until someone takes them to the dump.
But still – I don’t know if I would dumpster dive either :)

My friend and I went dumpster diving once :)
We were in high school and a local thrift shop was closing. We nabbed a few clothing items and pulled lots of buttons off clothes to keep.
    It was seriously FUN.
We needed a good shower afterward though ;)
I should scrap this memory :)

  8. My MIL found the coolest trash cans and tea cart on the street the other day. They look perfect in her mid-century decorated home. Which, btw, if you’re ever in the area, you NEED to see. It’s ta die for.

  9. what an awesome desk!! I can’t believe it! we have the same (or similar) aqua typepwriter, but half the keys don’t work. It’s sitting in storage right now… and that chair, fun!

  10. Oh wow this is beautiful to look at…but I do not know if I could have an actual conversation while sitting in it. Stunning and sleek design! I love the color as well :)

A friend and I once went to dinner but couldn’t find parking. As we were going around and around the entire neighborhood looking for a space, we went through an alley and found the most gorgeous leather chair! In the alley! Only problem was we couldn’t fit it in her VW. We spent maybe an hour and a half there and after almost ripping it in half to make it fit, we had to give up and we couldn’t find anyone with a truck. We were so sad we ended up having sundaes instead of dinner.

I’ve found some neat stuff on the side of the road but I wouldn’t go dumpster diving. Dumpsters are nasty!
I did find neat stuff in our trash room when I lived in Japan. Whole sets of books, a table, chairs etc. The unspoken rule was if it was in usable condition and you didn’t want it, you put it in one area. Usually another person in the tower took it but if it was still there on trash day, the Japanese workers took all the stuff that was set to the side and sold it off base.

Oh I do wish I had that kind of luck. In other news, I love your blog!
