Oh dear.

Jera

I don’t what to do with Valentine’s Day. The stubborn side of me wants to completely ignore it, because if I “celebrate,” I will just be giving in to the commercialization of everything in this country. But the romantic feminine side of me wants to seize the day and be completely lovey dovey as well as somewhat extravagant. :) What do you guys think? What’s your “norm” for Valentine’s Day? Do you even have a norm? I don’t. But maybe I’m just not old enough to have one yet. ha

Speaking of Valentine’s Day… I made a layout for Hambly Studios featuring some of their lovely pink paper and rub ons. Showcasing some friend-love.

I love the photography rub ons, and I will admit- I love vellum! Come on guys, it’s making a come back. I know I’ve been saying that for months now…. but I’m determined to continue using vellum! So anyway, I used the vellum to hold the photography rub ons and the Valentine’s Day rub ons from Hambly, because I didn’t want to break up the page too much by using an opaque paper… but I wanted the little grouping to have some presence.

Jera close up

Go check out what the other girls did with pink paper and rub ons!

I am loving this. It is giving me quite a few ideas for a Valentine’s Day card.
I totally feel you on Valentine’s Day by the way. Kevin and I usually either cook dinner together and watch a movie, or go somewhere we’ve been really wanting to go to for dinner. For the past couple weeks, we’ve been craving sushi big time, so we’re just going to go for sushi and coffee. Nothing special, but I’ve found those nights are usually the MOST special of all.

For V Day we always have a quiet nigth in. We watch “When Harry Met Sally”, eat junkfood and then get frisky.

What a gorgeous layout, I love it!

First, that layout is GORGEOUS!!! You are fab, my dear.
We really don’t have a Valentine’s day norm. I want to seize the day, but it’s going to be on a Saturday, so most likely everyone will be seizing the day. I don’t mind doing something romantic on a different day. But not sure what…
So, long story short, we are norm-less.

Oh im having the same dilems…should i get a present for my boyfriend?? Ill make him a card (nowhere near as nice as anything you make, wow your incredibly and deeply talanted!) but should I get him a gift?…ad should that gift be funny/tacky/useful?…and should i cook for him?…hes a 5 star chef so is it just an insult if i cook??? Oh man the questions! xx

  8. Hubs and I do not give into the commercialization of Valentine’s. He gets a handmade card, we *might* go to dinner (a cheap one, as always) and maybe a gift (under $15 this year). It’s a fun day to do something sweet for your SO, but keeping it sweet the rest of the year is important, too.

    That layout is stunning.
As for V-day, the hubs usually makes me dinner or we go out for dinner. I understand that a lot of people don’t like the commercialization of it, but I still like to take the time to think about sharing love with people. Even when I was a kid, my parents always gave us a Valentine’s Day present to make us feel special. I don’t think the day should just be reserved for couples.

  10. Rachel says:

I give in and use it as an excuse to have mimosas for breakfast!

  11. Kara says:

oh goodness, that layout… is just lovely. i keep looking at and finding more details that i like… so awesome.

  12. Molly says:

I am doing nada for vday. :) DH has duty (which means a 24 hour work day) so it’s me and my three kiddos. Will probably have cupid drop off some VERY small presents for them (a la scavenger hunt style, with hershey kisses leading the way). That shall be my vday.

  15. Cait says:

I agree about the commercialism of Valentine’s day…but as a daughter and someone who doesn’t date I love making things for my dad and brother, and look forward to celebrating it someday with a husband if that happens! But it stinks that it’s become as exploited as Christmas (actually Christmas is sadder I suppose…) for materialism.

  16. Lindsay says:

wow, i absolutely ADORE the layout! you gotta tell me what you cut the name out with. can’t be cardstock right? looks too thin but i know it’s not vellum either huh? tell me tell me tell me! i blogged about it so just click back and comment here: http://lindsaywilmore.blogspot.com/2009/02/i-am-so-gonna-scraplift-this.html

We don’t really do much for Valentine’s Day. Truth is, it’s actually the anniversary of our first date – not on purpose, we were both actually single on the holiday and just decided a few days ago to get together as friends since it would be a friday night…. and then realized we were actually on a date… heh.
Neil gets me tulips usually and I bake him cookies. But I think of it more for the reason above than Valentines Day.
You know, I always like it when you use vellum, but I never really think about it more than that. I don’t even know where to buy vellum! I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with it.
But this page is something swoon over. the pink and those letters!!

  21. Serena says:

I don’t have a “norm” for Valentine’s Day, but commercialization aside, I think it’s lovely that there is a holiday set aside to remind us to tell the people we care about how much they mean to us. Plus, I love all of the red and pink :-)

  22. Vanessa says:

i am not so much a fan of V-Day other than V is my initial. I usually make something nerdy and we laugh about it, but its not much different than anything else we do. I thought about making dinner reservations in Philly but decided not cos i would prolly get annoyed over all the couples and money. So i will just make something nice and yummy. I would rather do special lovey things on a spontaneous day and not a planned one.
    xoxo : )

soo cool! I have a question-do you sew (using a machine) on paper? Looks like this is the case but I tried it once and it was a disaster. again, this collage is pretty pretty!
