same old things
I used to do it a few years back.
I had an obsession with wearing only vintage clothing.
And so it was a natural overflow
of my thrift store prowling.
I had a vintage clothing store on ebay.
Made some extra money.
It was fun.
And I’m going to do it again.
I’m pretty excited about the stuff I have
to put up in the shop.
Coats, scarves, blouses, vests, boots, purses…
I only pick out items that I would wear myself.
Sometimes I replace buttons and things,
but it’s all vintage.
I just have a few decisions to make first.
Ebay or Etsy?
Really it comes down to auction…
or set price in a shop.
Also I am afforded customization of the ebay shop,
and not so much with the Etsy.
What do you guys think?
Really what it comes down to is…
which would be more lucrative?
I’d be interested in knowing your opinions in the matter.
For now… I leave you with a mosaic.
I think it captures the vibe
that I hope for my vintage clothing shop.
white mixte, modern vs. vintage, vintage cups, ice skating, vintage postcard, red bicycle, the line up, reflections, vespas, vw, outside-in, timeless, fairlight, cuppa, kolla, 1970s

yay! I’ve heard great things about eBay vintage stores despite my die hard love of the Etsy sub-culture so I’m of no service in this matter. However, I’m thrilled to see this venture.
YUM! OMG.
i don’t mind either one. agree with rachel here.
oooh. i’m a big vintage buyer! :DDDD
excited!
i am no help, but i can wish you good luck on your venture!
with e-bay would you have it as an auction and have a “buy it now” price” ?
hmm. tough one. maybe more exposure on ebay? i tend to think etsy is easier to use, but that is because my account on ebay was hacked.
either way – good luck!!
I would go with Etsy…it just seems to have such a great following these days and it is so easy to set up a shop. :)
I think my comment is going to be the same as everyone elses :)
If you want super duper exposure, perhaps ebay is a better avenue to take. However, I must agree that there is a sort of “community” on etsy that may be lacking on ebay.
this is exciting!
i feel like you have a lot more options and choices on ebay . . . so that could be a positive thing or it could just end up taking more time and energy. either will work well, i think. as far as being more lucrative, i would be interested to know if the auction thing might make more money. ebay also allows you to give your auction items a set price “buy now” option for your customers who are not into the whole auction following thing.
ALSO::: please let me in on the secret: how/where do you (and the rest of the blog world) find such beautiful pictures on flickr???? i always just find random stuff. not this artistic beautiful stuff.
i’m just falling love with etsy….but that’s just me. can’t wait though, whatever you decide!!
Oh, dude….that is one awesome vibe!! I thiiink….I don’t know much about ebay, and Etsy may be a harder market to crack – but it seems a little more upscale, to me. you have to promote shop either way, yeah? No matter what…its gonna rock!
I used to do this a couple years ago!
But it was mostly a mess, I never had my **** together, lol.
I think I just enjoyed the idea more than anything….
I bet you would have an amazing shop! I’m not any help with the etsy/ebay thing. I enjoy etsy much much more but ebay definitely has it’s plus sides.
Etsy.
Because I think bidding is super stressful. And Etsy is the bomb.
How cool! Congrats on your new project :)
I love Etsy myself, but that’s just me :)
i love vintage clothes- i am always looking for a cool piece to add to my collection. i went through a phase just like you did- i even bought vintage sewing patterns to sew clothes in the same style. i can’t wait to see what you have in store.
ebay or etsy? i like the feel of etsy better, but whatever works the best for you. thanks for all the inspiration!

good for you! sounds like a lot of fun (more time thrifting too!)
The only thing about ebay that I have noticed (as opposed to etsy) is that I think there are more shady characters around on ebay. probably due to size of the community… I’m probably not much help on this, sorry.
Best wishes for sure!
etsy!

wow Mandi… the mosaic is awesome> I think whatever you choose, it will be great!
