a bit more than I can handle.

It’s quite simple really.
I went to the antique shop.
I found a lot of vintage magazines.
I bought a lot of vintage magazines.
I have a lot of vintage magazines.
I quite possibly have too many vintage magazines.
I’m a bit overwhelmed.
Would you like one?

Lifecover

I’m offering up for grabs a mint condition LIFE magazine
from October 1964.
This could be good for so many things really…
collage, backgrounds, cards, layering…
But the surprising part of it is…
that it’s actually an entertaining read!

I joked with the antique guy
(he really wasn’t that old, he just worked there)
about going home and pouring over the articles.
This was after he asked me what I was going to do with them.
I told him the “real reason” (paper crafts)
but then I proceeded to go home
and do exactly what I didn’t think I would do.
Get sucked in by the articles.
I couldn’t help it really.
Just couldn’t help giggling over the slang,
snickering at weight loss articles written by Susan Dey,
oogling gossip collumns featuring Natalie Wood,
and critiquing politically skewed biographical articles.
Would you like to have a turn?

Awww! That’s the year my hubby was born. (Man, he’s old. LOL.) What a score!!! (The mag and the hubs!!!) So . . . my fave decade? Boy, I guess I’d have to say the 80s, when I was introduced to punk music, jelly bracelets and parachute pants. How can you go wrong??

  2. oooh…..these are grooovy. My fave decade (to scrap like at least) is the eighties….you’re so great for giving one away!

    too funny!
i thought of you a lot while in the great state of Ohio!!!
very industrialized area at one time, eh?
    great find with the mags!
unfortunately, i think i have enough paper around my house, so i will have to pass ;)
but i KNOW you will put them to great use as well!

my favorite decade is actually the sixties. i am just enthralled at how elegantly simple everything was then! i love reading nancy drew books, and always feel like everything was way glamorous and awesome then, what with how they dressed, treated each other, “came calling”…everything. i wish we could be like that today without getting funny looks.

  5. Ohhh the 80’s for sure! I do love me some 60’s though.

  6. Pegasus says:

My favorite decade??? Definitely the 60’s…Why? I was too young to worry about anything and young enough to have fun! And, everything was SO colorful!!
    :0)

UM, is that not cool or what???? I love the picture of the women lounging by the pool in a crazy black and neon yelowish suit:)
My favorite decade would be the 80ties, because that is when I grew up and the POP culture was the best, I still have smurfs adorning my dresser:)

  8. I am a fan of the 50’s, but I think I am the only one! lol
I wish I was born back then, because I think it seems so intriguing!!
But then I would be like 88, and well that’s no fun.

How weird is it that my aunt who knows I love vintage “stuff” just gave me a whole crapload of Life & Look mags that she purchased at a yard sale this weekend????
    Around the same era too.
reminds me I gotta get those out of my trunk!
    cool RAK…

I think I was meant to have been born in the sixties. once i was a hippy for halloween and i just felt so at home with the peace signs, headbands, and round ozzy o glasses. not to mention the killer patterns, awesome colors, and seemingly good times around every corner. with that said, i would love to have the mag. ;) very fun!
    happy tuesday!

  11. Send it my way! I lurvvve the 60s!

  12. Emilie Ahern says:

    How cool are thoe mags???
I so totally want to win I am dying!
My favorite decade may have to be the 50’s when wmoen were still repressed and in the kitchen and everyone wore pearls to clean the toilet.

LOVE this! Gotta say the 90’s (I’ll clarify that with early nineties though) … great music, styles and memories. :)

OOO I am in love with vintage LIFE!! My freshman year history class (@ Malone!) our prof took us to the library and gave us like a 1/2 hour to go through the old issues of LIFE and we had to write a paper about the different articles and ads and stuff.
Anyway the 20’s are my favorite..because I am obviously in LOVE with F. Scott Fitzgerald and I possibly want to marry him haha…also I would want to see my grandpa as a baby because I am sure he was the cutest little Chinese boy in the world!

  16. Bekka says:

I’m very certain I was meant to have been born in the late 60s/early 70s. Love the style back then!

HaHa!! I’m laughing at the last advert. There’s no way they would show women actually using appliances today in a print ad!!!
Congrats on your find – good luck to some lucky gal – please don’t enter me in this giveaway — but I just had to comment!! Oh, and my favorite decade? The 40’s

  19. Kristin says:

Looking back I would say I love the 20’s a 30’s for the clothing and all the vintage papers they are replicating now from that time. I do love to read things that were written in the 50’s. I love to read about different cultures and observe the difference in everyday life. This magazine would be so cool to look at and of course to have!!!

ohhhh what a great find!!! i’d have to say my fav decade gone by would have to be the 50s. lu-huuuuve everything that came out of that time period! and what a magical time to have lived…well at least in the dating aspect. where the guy would meet your “folks” and take you out to the diner for a milkshake and you would wear your poodle skirt and bow in your ponytail and swoon at this man who is woo-ing you. *sigh* doesn’t that sound magical? lol ahem, anyhoo, good luck picking the winner! :)

  21. I have to say that the 40’s are my favorite decade gone by.
The fashion, the decor, advertisements, the culture. I wish I could go back in time, seriously.
That magazine may be 20 years after the time I love but what it treasure it would be to create with!

  22. Kristina says:

Yes, I would like one. lol
Just doing some bloghopping.. Love yours, and the things you make. ;)

  23. Abby says:

1950’s by far. :) Your blog ROCKS!!!!

  24. My favorite decade is the 50’s because life seemed so ideal and sweet. I know it was mostly a commercial facade but it seems nice.
Thanks for the order from PonyParty! I’ll make sure they go out by Saturday so you can enjoy a nice cup of tea by Tuesday or so.
Loved the post from today (24th) by the way. Its what summertime should be like.
