WHAT I WORE | Pretty in Pink

As a vintage fashion enthusiast, I’ve never been one to vow loyalty to a specific decade in fashion history, though I probably play favorites. The sixties are so much fun, but they borrow a lot from the ’30s, which I came to admire through a lifetime love of classic film from that decade. And at times the ’60s and ’70s can blend together with big collars, ascot ties, statement sleeves, funky patterns, and cool hats. I don’t discriminate between the two decades and would probably say they’re both my favorites as far as style goes. But every once in a while I’ll put together an outfit that combines inspiration from each of my favorite style decades— ’30s, ’60s, and ’70s— and it makes me think, man! Maybe I finally nailed down my personal style after all these years in search of it.
But I guarantee you next year I’ll feel different. But that’s the beauty of personal style, isn’t it? It’s an ever evolving beast, changing with our lifestyles and interests, sometimes being guided by larger fashion trends, and other times designed in rebellion against them. So maybe there will come a day when I cringe at the sight of these pink pants. But not today, man. Not today.
